FSMA – What is it?
The Food Safety and Modernization Act is legislation passed in 2011 revising 80 year old food safety laws & procedures. This landmark legislation is prevention based and shifts responsibility to food and beverage brand owners and their supply chain. FSMA is designed to help regulators prevent food safety incidents before they occur. It gives the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) sweeping new regulatory and enforcement powers which are just now being implemented.
